We are proud and happy to announce the foundation of the new "GAMM Nachwuchsgruppe Hamburg"!
GAMM is an acronym for "Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik", the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. It was founded in 1922 by Ludwig Prandtl and Richard von Mises in order to promote scientific development in these fields.
The GAMM supports young academics in their early career by forming student chapters, called "Nachwuchsgruppe". After groups at Technische Universität Chemnitz and Universität Augsburg, ours is now the third of this kind.
Our newly founded GAMM Nachwuchsgruppe will be organized in close symbiosis to the existing SIAM chapter by a joint executive committee. This committee will be supported and supervised by the representative of GAMM at Universität Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Michael Hinze, who also played an active role in the foundation of the group. To account for the changes, we are planning a major relaunch of our website soon.
The newly founded GAMM Nachwuchsgruppe Hamburg opens up a wealth of opportunities for our members. It is open to Master- and PhD-students both from Universität Hamburg and Technische Universität Hamburg that are working on or interested in topics in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. Joining the "Nachwuchsgruppe" includes free membership at GAMM for three years.
